One of its strengths is the ensemble cast, which is getting better by the episode. Peter Krause, Donald Sutherland and Jill Clayburgh were stellar out of the gate but the others are catching up. While most of the characters were almost cartoonish in the pilot, the writers and actors have succeeded in adding more depth.
Unfortunately, except for the two played by Peter Krause and Donald Sutherland, each is more tiresome and off-putting than the last. Krause plays Nick George, whose father had the all-consuming job of being personal attorney to the Darlings, the wealthiest family in New York. By now, Nick is a lawyer himself, specializing in low-paying but fulfilling work for charitable groups.
The additional nine episodes to be added to the 13 previously ordered by ABC will bring the total to 22 episodes. The show is still in production on scripts that were penned prior to the writers' strike. In "Dirty Sexy Money," Krause plays an idealistic lawyer who must represent the wealthy and colorful New York Darling family led by Sutherland and Clayburgh as patriarch and matriarch.

There are now too many different genres for anyone to keep up with two dysfunctional family sagas at once. This season, however, the choice is easy. But essentially both series tell a story as old as Joseph and his coat of many colors: a powerful patriarch prefers one son over all the others, and bad feelings and scheming ensue.
The series revolves around lawyer and family man Nick George, portrayed by Peter Krause. When Nick's father mysteriously dies in a plane crash, he agrees to take his position as the Darling family's lawyer, while trying to discover who committed the murder. The Darlings, the richest family in New York, constantly rely on Nick to solve their problems.
